Unbounded magic is all magic that is more controlled than raw magic but is not linked to the preceptive field. Although unbounded magic was the first directed use of magical energy and forms the basis of magical theory, since the creation of preceptive magic the use of unbounded magic is forbidden, except for the Five Great Mages, who are allowed to use unbounded magic to protect the Kingdom. In theory, all preceptive magic relies upon unbounded magic, as the preceptive field is technically an extremely complicated unbounded magical spell, infused into the precpetive artefacts, and therefore all spells ever cast using preceptive magic are simply sub-spells that further complicated the initial spell (the preceptive field)'s interactions with the magical field.

Unbounded magic is also different to raw and preceptive magic in being the stuff of magical spirits, sentient beings made of magical energy that exist within the magical field. Unlike the neutral nature of magic itself, magical spirits are inherently fearful of being destroyed or constrained and are in nearly all cases evil or destructive.
